Tanya?s weekly insight: What healthy foods do you deny yourself of?

Just the other day I was reading Oxygen magazine and the fitness model on the front cover claims that she has not had a cheat day in over 12 months. This got me thinking about myself and what it would take for me to be able to achieve the same thing. It came to me straight away ? if I allowed myself to eat the healthy foods that I put into the ?bad category? such as bread, I too could achieve this. Often in our quest for a leaner body we group foods in this way. Not just the common ones, like carbohydrates (bread, rice and pasta) but also potatoes & fruit also come under this macro nutrient that we may consider as ?bad?. The fact is that these foods are clean; they come from nature and are unprocessed. In the example of myself, I have worked out that if I include a few meals per week with such food, I do not look for cakes or chips. I am satisfied as I have fed my body with what it wants.? So what healthy foods can you include back into your diet (with moderation, of course) that help you to stay on track?

Her Recipes for a healthier, leaner you

Lentil Salad (Serves 1)

Ingredients

  • ? a tin of organic brown lentils rinsed well
  • 2 cups of salad leaves cut in severing bowl with kitchen scissors
  • ? grated beetroot
  • 1 small carrot grated
  • ? cumber diced
  • 5 cherry tomatoes cut in halves
  • 1 tbs organic apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbs olive oil
  • Salt to taste

Method

In a bowl, mix the lentils with the apple cider vinegar, olive oil and salt.
Put all other ingredients in a serving bowl.
Toss through the lentils.
